The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice, Inc. (“ALPP”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to www.alpp.org, findaclc.org, and beaclc.org (“ALPP’s Website” or the “Website”) and governs data collection and usage. By using ALPP’s Website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Collection of Your Personal Information
ALPP’s website may collect, retain and/or use personally identifiable information that can be used to reveal your identity (“Personally Identifiable Information”, “PII”), such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address, city, state, zip code, apartment or suite number, telephone number, fax number, ALPP Member identification number, username, password, or any other identifying information you provide.
There is also information about your computer hardware and software that is automatically collected by ALPP. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses. This information is used by ALPP for the operation of the Website, to maintain the quality of the Website, and to provide general statistics regarding use of ALPP’s Website.
Use of Your Personal Information
ALPP collects and uses your Personally Identifiable Information to operate the Website and create an on-line community where users and individuals with ALPP certifications (“Members”) can interact and obtain and exchange information concerning ALPP, breastfeeding, lactation, and other relevant issues. On occasion, ALPP may also use your Personally Identifiable Information to inform you of social, legal and political issues that concern ALPP, ALPP certifications, breastfeeding, lactation or other relevant concerns.
ALPP does not sell, rent or lease your PII to third-parties. From time to time, however, ALPP may contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering or event that may be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number, etc.) is not transferred to the third party. Additionally, ALPP may share data with trusted partners to help us maintain the Website, perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or other similar activities. All such third parties are prohibited from using your PII except to provide these services to ALPP and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
ALPP keeps track of the pages our users visit within the ALPP Website in order to determine what ALPP services are the most popular. This data is used to deliver customized content and advertising within ALPP to users whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.
ALPP and or the ALPP Website will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on ALPP or the Website; (b) protect and defend the rights, property, or personal safety of ALPP’s employees; (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of the Website’s users or the public; and or (d) as otherwise specified in the Terms of Use at www.alpp.org/index.php/terms-of-use.
Members-Only Section and Member Profile
Members are permitted to register and log into the Members-Only section of the Website in order to communicate with other Members, obtain and share relevant information, participate in member forums, and learn about local and national events involving Members. As part of the Members-Only section, Members can create an online Member profile (“Profile”) that contains Personally Identifiable Information regarding your name, address, email address, phone number, pictures, certifications, preferences, and other PII. Unless the Member gives opt-in consent, ALPP will not disclose the information in the Profile or other PII to other Members or the public.
Members-Only Forums
ALPP’s Website makes discussion groups available to Members. Please remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes public information and Members should exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information. ALPP cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted in the Members-Only forums.
Access and Change to your Personal Information
If you are a Member, you can review and edit the Personally Identifiable Information provided by you to ALPP in the Members-Only section. To do so, log in and click on “My Profile”. Some of your PII in ALPP’s possession may not be accessible or changeable within the Members-Only section. In such cases or if you are not a Member, you may be able to access and/or change your PII possessed by contacting ALPP by phone at (508) 833-1500. We will use commercially reasonable steps to verify your identity before providing and/or correcting the requested PII.
Cookies
The ALPP Website uses “cookies” to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard drive by a Web page server. From time to time we may use cookies for different reasons including to make your user experience more enjoyable, track what pages you visit, to keep track of your login information so it is available for you when you need it, and for other purposes. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you will be unable to opt-out or unsubscribe from membership@alpp.org. ALPP uses this e-mail account for the sole purpose of contacting you with important administrative or advocacy information that affects your ALPP membership or certification, including but not limited to information concerning the administration of your account, renewal of your ALPP membership, or potential legislative action that affects lactation care providers.

Analytics
Our Websites use Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and webpage usage.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
